Cigarettes are going to cost you more today.

Starting today, smokers will pay more for their nicotine fix.

The largest cigarette tax hike in history goes into effect Wednesday, with the old 39-cent tax going up to $1.01.

The average price for one pack of cigarettes in Chicago is now about $9.50.

Some Illinois lawmakers are pushing to make it even higher, as a senate committee just approved legislation that would raise the price another dollar over the next two years.
