It's skunk season in suburban Chicago.
Naperville animal control officer Christine Maybach told The (Elgin) Courier-News that February and March are "like a madhouse" when it comes to skunks. That's because they're breeding. Maybach says it should start to slow in the next few weeks, but right now the animals are looking for food.
Elgin Public Works superintendent Dan Rich says he has skunks living under his deck. The city's citizen services director, Colby Basham, says Elgin's 311 system received three calls about skunks last year at this time, too. This year the city received 13 calls.
Brad Lundsteen owns Suburban Wildlife Control. He says the last four years have been "especially bad" for skunks, but luckily the smelly issue usually slows down by the end of March.
