Man Charged in Skokie Double Slaying

The man is charged with the stabbing deaths of his daughter and young granddaughter

A Skokie man has been charged with the stabbing deaths of his daughter and granddaughter, police said.

Miguel Renteria, 39, was charged Thursday with two counts of homicide for the murders of 18-year old Cynthia Renteria and her 2-year-old daughter, Jeiloni Renteria, Skokie police said.

Renteria recently rented a room in the small, two-story building in the 4600 block of Main Street, where the murders took place, police said. Cynthia and Jeiloni Renteria lived in Chicago.

Police said they received a 911 call Wednesday afternoon from a man who told a dispatcher he'd just killed his daughter and granddaughter.

Inside the home, officers found Cynthia and Jeiloni Renteria unresponsive on the living room floor. Cynthia Renteria showed signs of asphyxiation, police said, and her daughter showed signs of multiple stab wounds.

They were transported to St. Francis Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

A police source Wednesday said the man who called 911 was found with "blood all over his hands."

There had been a report that Cynthia Renteria was about five weeks pregnant, but police said the hospital has recanted that information, saying a test came up with a "false positive."

The only contact Skokie police previously had with Renteria, they said, was a traffic citation.

Cynthia Renteria, 18, and her 2-year-old daughter, Jeiloni Renteria, were killed Wednesday.
