4 Teens Injured in Shooting on South Side: Police

Four teenage students who were traveling in a van were injured in a shooting on the South Side Tuesday evening, police said.

The incident took place in Bronzeville in the 4900 block of South King Drive around 3:38 p.m., police said.

A 17-year-old male was shot in back and transported to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, police said. A 16-year-old male suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh and was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition. A 16-year-old male was shot in the back and taken to Stroger in stable condition.

A fouth victim, a 15-year-old male, suffered lacerations to his upper left shoulder from glass, police said. He was taken to University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital.

All victims were students at Dunbar Vocational High School, police said, adding that the incident was a targeted gang-related shooting in reaction to a prior shooting that occurred around 11 a.m. at 37th and Michigan. 

A neighbor who saw the incident unfold said he heard around 20 gun shots.

"It's sad. It's not scary anymore -- it's sad that kids can't even come home from school. It's sad," Tony Moore said.
