On this Valentine's Day, Matt McAndrew and Krystal Kumpula have lots to celebrate.
The couple got engaged Monday in front of the Beluga Whales at the Shedd Aquarium, thanks to NBC 5's "Whale of a Love Story" contest.
Matt and Krystal sent the Shedd a letter, telling them why they deserved to get engaged in front of the beautiful mammals.
"A month into dating, they spent a day shopping downtown and took a break on a cement bench looking over the Chicago River. Matt put his arm around Krystal and at that moment, they realized they wanted to grow old together," the couple wrote in the letter.
Their story stood out, and the Shedd selected them as finalists for this year's "Whale of a Love Story" contest.
On Monday, Matt got on one knee and popped the question to Krystal, his soul mate.
After the unique proposal, Matt and Krystal got to spend some time in the water with Mauyak, one of the Belugas at the Shedd.
