Sex Offender Accused of Hanging Out at Park

A registered child sex offender was arrested Tuesday after police investigated complaints that he was hanging out at a northwest suburban park.

Woodstock police started investigating June 16 after reports that a child sex offender was seen on the property of the Woodstock Water Works at 1313 Kishwaukee Valley Rd., a site located inside Emricson Park.

The park includes playgrounds, ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, hiking trails and an aquatic center.

On Tuesday, Woodstock detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Edward J. Johnson, charging him with one misdemeanor count of unlawful presence of a child sex offender in a public park, a statement from Woodstock police said.

Johnson turned himself in to police and was freed after posting $1,500 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court July 24 in Woodstock, according to police.
