Serial Pooper Leaving Loads in Dorm Washing Machines at Illinois University

Someone is apparently dropping loads in dorm washing machines at Southern Illinois University – but not the right kind of loads.

Students told the Carbondale university’s student newspaper a so-called “bowel movement bandit” has been leaving feces in washing machines at Abbott Hall.

One student reported finding poop in his clothing as many as three times over the last year while multiple other students told the Daily Egyptian they found fecal matter on their clothing in the last month.

A university spokesperson confirmed housing staff received a report of an incident in September, prompting an investigation by the Department of Public Safety.

The case remains open and active, said Rae Goldsmith.

“Following the report, housing staff members initiated conversations with students about responsible group living and respect for each other’s property,” Goldsmith said in a statement. “We always encourage residents to stay with their laundry in order to prevent theft or other issues.”

She added that no suspects have been identified so far.
