1 Dead, 8 Critically Injured in Separate Crashes

The crashes happened around 1:30 and 2 this morning.

    Two car crashes left one dead and eight people critically wounded early this morning, the Sun-Times reports.

    At 1:30 a.m., a vehicle hit a tree near the intersection of South Damen Avenue and West 21st Street.

    Three people were taken to area hospitals in in serious-to-critical condition.

    Candis Ricks, 29, of an unknown home address, died following the crash, according to the Sun-Times.

    In a separate incident, an undetermined number of cars were involved in a crash in the 2400 block of West North Shore Avenue in Rogers Park, critically injuring six.

    Three people were taken to Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge, two to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston and one to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, the Sun-Times reports.
