A semi full of Nutella rolled over on an Indiana highway late-Monday evening in Laporte County.

Authorities said the 2003 Freightliner hauling 44,000 pounds of Nutella cocoa spread was traveling just before 9:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 94 when the driver was forced to slam on his brakes.

Police said the car in front of the semi made an abrupt stop causing the semi to “brake hard and steer left” before he lost control, left the roadway and struck a median head on near mile marker 45.

The crash caused the tractor and trailer to overturn, sending the tractor over the barrier wall and onto the shoulder of the eastbound lanes of I-94, police said.

The driver was not injured but the crash left the semi spilling 150 gallons of diesel into the median and closed the westbound lanes of the roadway for two and a half hours, authorities said.
