City Could See Season's Biggest Snowfall This Weekend

Early predictions indicate 7 to 8 inches could fall Sunday

Enjoy the sunshine and clear skies while you can because there's some wet weather forecast for Chicago this week and early predictions indicate the area could see the biggest snowstorm of the season over the weekend.

A light icy mix is possible Wednesday evening for Chicago, but we're more likely to see light rain overnight and into Thursday. Conditions will dry up later in the day and the sun will return Friday and Saturday morning before a snowy storm system looks to move in.

Snow flurries are expected to begin Saturday afternoon or evening. The flurries will likely turn into accumulating snowfall overnight and last throughout the day.

Models Wednesday indicate several inches, possibly more than seven, could fall across the Chicago metro area by the evening on Super Bowl Sunday. Those snowfall predictions could change as the week progresses.

Lake effect snow is forecast to continue overnight and into Monday morning after the system moves through, but that will only affect northwest Indiana.

Conditions throughout most of the metro area will likely be dry again for the Monday morning commute, but it will be much colder.
