A search is under way of Salt Creek after an abandoned canoe was discovered Monday morning in west suburban Elmhurst.
The canoe and a life cushion were found in the water under the bridge at St. Charles Road and Route 83 about 10 a.m., according to a spokeswoman for the city of Elmhurst.
Divers are preparing to search the creek.
Eastbound lanes of St. Charles Road between Route 83 and Monterrey Avenue are closed, and drivers are warned to avoid the area.
