Search Called Off For Zion Baby

Zion police decided Sunday to stop searching for the remains of a 5-month-old boy allegedly killed by his mother's boyfriend.

Authorities had been searching the Advanced Disposal Landfill in Zion since Friday for any sign of Joshua Summeries, but have given up hope that his body will be found.

Police say Demetries Thorpe, 26, confessed to suffocating the boy while he was crying until he stopped breathing, putting him in a backpack and dropping it into a Dumpster.

Thorpe has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held on a $5 million bond.

Thorpe allegedly told the boy's mother he had been abducted.
