Scott Darling's New Mask Loaded With Chicago Tributes

Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Scott Darling recently signed a two-year contract extension with the team, and on Wednesday night he unveiled a new mask that suggests that he wants to stay in the Windy City for a lot longer than that.

The mask, which was designed by artist Jason Livery from Head Strong Grafx, is chock full of references to the city of Chicago, with iconic figures such as the Blues Brothers, the lions outside of the Art Institute, the Bean, and the Willis Tower all displayed upon it.

Here are a couple of pictures of the mask:

Perhaps the coolest elements of the mask are featured on the back of it, as a character from “Where the Wild Things Are” is featured with the initials “C.R.” on his chest as an homage to Blackhawks equipment manager Clint Reif, who passed away earlier this year. The slogan “Luctor et Emergo” (which translates to “I struggle and I win”) also is featured as an homage to Darling’s struggle and ultimate victory over alcoholism.

If Darling wants to debut the new mask soon, it won’t be occurring on Thursday night against the St. Louis Blues, as Corey Crawford is getting the start.
