Schwarber Reveals Touching Reason He Wears Green Bracelet During Games

You may have noticed Kyle Schwarber wearing a green wristband during games, and on Wednesday night he revealed the reason why.

Schwarber said he wears it in support of a 10-year-old boy named Campbell Faulkner.

“I met him my first spring training,” Schwarber said. “A really young, smart kid. He’s always got a big smile on his face and that draws your attention to him, you know? He’s living his life to the fullest even though he’s got things to overcome.”

Campbell has a rare form of mitochondrial disease. He struggles to stand and walk for extended periods of time and requires two feeding tubes in his stomach for extra nutrition. Schwarber says they stay in touch through e-mail and spend most of their time talking baseball.

Schwarber, who tore his left ACL in the Cubs’ third game of the regular season, was originally thought to be lost for the year, but thanks to his strenuous rehab and his dedication to getting back on the field, he is back in the lineup while the team plays in its first Fall Classic since 1945.
