School Principal, Child Die After Indianapolis Crash

Authorities say an Indianapolis school principal and a young child have died after their SUV was struck by another vehicle that went through a red light.

The Marion County Coroner's Office says the crash Tuesday morning left 50-year-old Norris Ncube and 5-year-old Malia Siziba dead.

The office initially said 12-year-old Sandile Ncube was also killed. But Chief Deputy Coroner Alfarena Ballew said later Tuesday in an email to multiple media outlets that Sandile was alive and on a ventilator.

Norris Ncube was the principal of Indianapolis Junior Academy, affiliated with the Seventh Day Adventist church. A church spokeswoman tells The Indianapolis Star that Ncube frequently transported students to school. She says his SUV was carrying two of his children and three other students at the school.

Police say one of the drivers might have suffered a medical problem before going through a red light at an Interstate 465 interchange on the city's west side.

Three other children and one adult also were injured.
