Numerous schools were closed or opening late Tuesday morning as icy conditions made for dangerous travel.
An Ice Storm Warning remained in effect until 9 a.m. for DeKalb, DuPage Kane, LaSalle, Cook, Grundy, Will and Kendall counties in Illinois along with Lake County in Indiana.

Ice accumulations of up to half an inch are possible.
A Winter Weather Advisory will also remain in effect through midnight for Lake and McHenry counties.
Strong winds are expected to develop late Tuesday, bringing the potential for blowing snow and a threat for power power outages, especially in areas with significant ice accumulations.
