The animals involved in a school bus crash Wednesday have all found foster homes.
No injuries were reported after the bus lost control and hit an animal shelter in suburban Niles.
The bus plowed into the front of Wright-Way Rescue in the 7100 block of West Touhy Avenue. No children were on the bus at the time, and the driver and a teachers' aide on board weren't injured, police said.
No animals were injured either, but the crash caused heavy damage to the building. A cat missing immediately after the incident was later found.
The driver was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
"We're so, so lucky," Christy Anderson, founder of Wright-Way, said. "It's a horrible thing that happened, but thank God no one was hurt."
Still it's devastating for the cash-strapped shelter. Anderson said 75 animals scheduled to arrive at at the Niles location to find homes this Friday won't be able to. That goes for animals previously scheduled to arrive the next few weeks.
The shelter now faces a big, costly cleanup and urges anyone interested in making donations to email wrightwayrescue.net.
