39 Injured in School Bus Crash

Nearly 40 people, mostly children, were injured Monday after the school bus they were in overturned after being hit by a truck.

The injuries were not life-threatening, officials said, but several were hospitalized. Twenty-two children were released to their parents.

The bus was en route to Milton Pope School, an elementary school in Marseilles, in LaSalle County, when it collided with an SUV around 8:15 a.m. at North 32nd and East 25th roads.

A silver pickup truck traveled into the intersection and was struck by the school bus, said LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton. The school bus did not have a stop or yield sign.

Video from Sky 5 showed the bus on its side and the badly damaged SUV nearby.
