School Board May Reinstate Controversial Book

Eighth-grade parent complained of racy content in "The Perks of Being a Wallflower"

UPDATE: Glen Ellyn Lifts Ban on "Wallflower" Book

Too racy for eighth-graders?

A decision will be made Monday night on whether to reinstate the controversial book "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" at Glen Ellyn's Hadley Junior High School, The Daily-Herald reported.

Glen Ellyn Elementary District 41 school board members voted to remove the book from the shelves in April after a parent complained about the sexually explicit language.

The board will decide whether to make the book available as an independent reading option, or to implement new procedures for informing parents of potentially controversial books available to students.
