The suburb of sandwich encountered its first H1N1 death this weekend after a teenager from the town died Sunday, the Dekalb Health Department confirmed.
The teen, whose name is not being released, went to Sandwich High School last year.
A letter posted on the school district’s website said that the teen did not attend any classes this year.
Health officials are investigating whether the teen had any prior health conditions.
Before Monday, a total of 20 people had died of the H1N1 flu in Illinois this year, according to the state Department of Public Health.
