SUV Chased by Police Crashes, Injures Three Women

Three women were hospitalized Monday morning, innocent victims of the culmination of a police chase.

The crash happened at about 10:40 a.m. in the South Side Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.

Police say they received a call about someone passing a gun to another individual inside an SUV on the 1100 block of E. 67th Street.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle, which they say was a stolen Lexus SUV with four males inside, but the driver refused to comply, according to police.

A chase ensued for several blocks when the SUV broadsided car with three women inside at Marquette Road and King Drive.

The women were taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

The 19-year-old driver and one of his passengers were also hospitalized, but their conditions were unknown. The two other passengers were being questioned by police.

Jim Jake witnessed the crash.

"They had to come out of there in a stretcher to an ambulance. They're in bad shape baby, the little boy that was in the car, his head is split as big as my hat," Jake said.

Authorities initially said a gun was recovered at the scene, but later said no weapon was found.
