Rockford Man Gets 70 Years for Killing Ice Cream Vendor

Two other men were sentenced to 20 and 22 years for the vendor's death

A man convicted of killing an ice cream vendor in northern Illinois has been sentenced to 70 years in prison.

Rafael Santos was sentenced Wednesday for the 2007 slaying in the city of Rockford.

The Rockford Register Star reports that Judge Gary Pumilia called the killing a "senseless" crime.

Last week, a jury took less than two hours to find Santos guilty of first-degree murder.

Santos is the third man sentenced in the case. He was convicted of pulling the trigger as the three men robbed the vendor, Isidro Duran, in July 2007.

Duran was selling fruit bars out of a push cart. He was shot several times in the leg and back.

The other two men were sentenced to 20 and 22 years in prison.
