Robbery Suspect Hides Loot in Diaper

His plan stunk

Illinois State Police had an interesting surprise waiting for them when they opened a baby's "dirty" diaper Monday.

After hearing gunshots at the Fairplay Grocery on Saturday night, police say they saw four men with handguns running out of the store. After a foot pursuit and some exchanged gunfire, the troopers were able to apprehend three of the four suspects.

But Eddie Avery, 59, eluded them temporarily. He was caught on Monday when police surveillance spotted a vehicle driving away from the residence in which he was hiding. Cops pulled the car over and discovered six weapons ... and a small diapered child.

And while something stunk about the kid's diaper, it wasn't the usual affair.

State police found a controlled substance in the diaper and Avery was charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapons and possession of a controlled substance.
