West Loop residents are on alert after a series of armed robberies by men pretending to be police officers or security guards.

The two fake cops and/or guards have been approaching people walking or sitting in their cars, according to a community alert from Area Central detectives. The robbers imply or show a gun and rob the victims.

The first robbery happened about 2:15 a.m. Jan. 27 in the 200 block of North Green Street, police said. The second happened about 1:25 a.m. April 1 in the 900 block of West Randolph; and the third at 12:33 a.m. April 10 in the 1100 block of West Randolph.

The alert describes the robbers as black men between 35 and 45 pretending to be police or security officers. Both men are between 5-foot-10 and 6 feet, and weigh 200-250 pounds, police said.

Anyone with information should call Area Central detectives at 312-747-8382.
