A members-only social club for adults interested in an alternative sexual lifestyle like bondage and domination wants to move to River North.
The non-profit Galleria Domain 2 has applied for a special use permit to set up on the 300 block of West Superior, which would place it near family condos and businesses.
According to Galleria Domain 2’s website, the group identifies as "Chicago’s premiere kink club." "Play parties" are held for members weekend nights. Alcohol is banned and everyone must sign confidentiality agreements.
“I think it is deplorable that a business such as this, and I'm a fairly liberal person, would move into a residential neighborhood,” said Steven Levy, who lives next door to proposed location.
The website also said Galleria Domain 2 currently operates a club near Western and North, located on the border of Bucktown and Logan Square. Residents who live near that location told NBC 5 they weren’t aware of the club’s presence.
Nevertheless, residents say they will try to prevent Galleria Domain 2 from opening a location in the neighborhood.
“They're going to get petitions to fight this and present to the Alderman,” Levy said. “I haven't heard anything but disgust over this.”
Alderman of the 44th Ward Brendan Reilly and Galleria Domain 2 have yet to respond to a request for comment.
