Rhinoceros Bites Staff Member at Lincoln Park Zoo

A staff member at the Lincoln Park Zoo was bitten by a rhinoceros Saturday morning, according to a release from the zoo.

The incident occurred during a routine training session behind the scenes of the Regenstein African Journey exhibit, a spokesperson for the zoo said.

The animal care staff member was bitten on the index finger by an Eastern black rhinoceros, and taken to the hospital for treatment.

The rhino involved was uninjured, and the animals will continue to be on exhibit throughout the day as planned.
