Retirement Home Resident Accused of Fatally Stabbing Friend

Chicago authorities say a 72-year-old man fatally stabbed a friend at a retirement home after arguing over a jacket.

Roosevelt Shaffer is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 69-year-old Raymond Robinson at the South Side senior living facility where both men lived.

Prosecutors say the men were arguing about a jacket on Friday when Shaffer allegedly stabbed Robinson in the chest with a boning knife. Robinson died about an hour later at a hospital.

A judge on Sunday ordered Shaffer held Sunday on $500,000 bond.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Shaffer admitted to the attack but told police he thought Robinson only suffered a cut that would require a few stitches.
