Reports: Bears Being Investigated by NFL for Injury Report Snafu

The Chicago Bears picked up a victory over the St. Louis Rams Sunday, but it’s possible that the team’s wallet could be a bit lighter if they mishandled their injury report before the game.

The Bears left Pernell McPhee and Matt Forte back in Chicago during the game in St. Louis, but did not publicly update the injury report with this new information. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, this could constitute a violation of league rules.

The team defended itself against charges of impropriety, saying they informed both the Rams and the NFL of their decision to rule McPhee and Forte out of the game.

Here is what Pro Football Talk had to say:

“Telling the opposing team that a player has been downgraded to out isn’t good enough. The NFL’s policy requires that changes to the final injury report be disclosed to the 'beat reporters, including the Associated Press, the televising network of your game, the Public Relations department of your opponent that weekend, and your respective Conference Football Communications Director.'”

If the NFL finds them guilty of violating injury report rules, the Bears could be subject to several thousand dollars in fines.
