The date is set for Feb. 21, 2020

Registration for the annual Polar Plunge in Illinois has opened and now, those bold enough to jump into the frigid waters of Lake Michigan will be able to do so for a cause in 2020.

The money raised every year during the event goes to all of the items that the Special Olympics organization needs for its athletes, including transportation, medals, sports equipment, and trips for thousands of area athletes that participate in the program.

“The league of nearly 60 SUPER Plungers will begin jumping into Lake Michigan at 2311 Campus Drive Evanston, IL. at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2020,” according to a press release. “The Plunging elite will continue plunging once an hour for 24 hours until 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22.”

All SUPER Plungers, who are asked to raise a minimum of $2,500 to participate, will be provided with a heated tent, the statement said,
