He saw the light, then solicited a lady of the night.

Police arrested Minister Raymond Sams, 52, of New Evangelical Church for soliciting a prostitute on October 21st, according to a police report.

Sams allegedly approached a police officer working in a covert capacity in the 4500 block of W. Madison. The arrest occurred one day after his 52nd birthday.

New Evangelical Church did not immediately return a call requesting comment.

Sams, according to the church's web site, is a Youth Pastor, Associate Minister, Assistant Superintendent and Elder of New Evangelical Bible Church.

He also teaches Sunday school, heads the prison ministry and is in Chaplin’s Assistance training at Stroger Hospital, and became a minister after "a near-fatal car accident" in which he was partially paralyzed.

In addition to his ministerial duties, Sams is an amateur gospel vocalist. His YouTube account shows several songs from his debut, self-published CD titled "Never Alone."
