Rainy, Snowy, Freezing … Winter

Winter continues with 'hazardous' weather reportedly on the way

A harsh dose of winter reality begins at noon Monday along with a winter weather advisory for the Chicago area and an ongoing flood advisory for Kane and Kendall counties.

Between 3 and 5 inches is expected to accumulate before Tuesday morning, leading to slippery road conditions and even black ice. Watch out for freezing rain throughout Monday morning and icy roads during the afternoon rush hour.

Snow is expected to taper off Monday night, and partial sun could break through by Tuesday afternoon to start the melting process. After Sunday's rainy afternoon, flood advisories were issued to the Fox River at Montgomery and Des Plaines River at Riverside. Snowmelt and continuing rain could add to the flooding.

Andy Avalos predicts snow to return Thursday night following highs between 38 and 42. Accumulation is expected Friday.
