Quinn Hints at Future Plans During Chicago Speech

The Chicago Democrat delivered a speech Tuesday to the City Club of Chicago

Outgoing Gov. Pat Quinn says his future plans include organizing for causes he believes in, like veterans' rights.

The Chicago Democrat delivered a speech Tuesday to the City Club of Chicago where he looked back at his nearly six years in office. He says being governor is a matter of fairness and recapped his legacy of signing historic legislation, including legalizing same-sex marriage and abolishing the death penalty. He pointed to improvements in Illinois' economic climate during his tenure.

He also mentioned his reformer roots and says he envisions petition drives for various causes in his future.

Quinn is calling lawmakers to Springfield Thursday to consider a special election to replace late Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka. Quinn wouldn't say if he's received commitment from Democratic leaders about calling legislation.
