Quick-Thinking Officers Nab Four Robbery Suspects

Arrests come after police stop vehicle for running a red light

Chicago police credit some quick-thinking officers in the Gresham District for arresting four suspects in a series of armed robberies that occurred just hours earlier.

Officers patrolling an area on the South Side early Tuesday saw a grey Chevy run a red light near 79th and Ellis, police said.

They pulled over the vehicle with four men inside and noticed one of the men tossing a gun into the back of the vehicle, according to a statement from News Affairs.

The officers recovered the weapon, cash, cell phones and identification cards from inside the vehicle, police said. After investigating further, police said they discovered the vehicle had been reported taken in a carjacking.

With the help of detectives, the officers located several victims who had been robbed just hours earlier and identified the men as suspects, police said.

Charged with at least one count each of armed robbery are:

Richard Johnson, 28, of the 8600 block of South Elizabeth; Glen Williams, 22, of the 7900 block of South St. Lawrence; Jamal Preacely, 22, of the 1400 block of East 55th Place; and Kendrick Martin, 24, of the 3600 block of West Franklin Blvd.
