A pregnant Indiana woman reportedly scared off an intruder with a knife after a man kicked in her front door while her baby daughter was taking a nap.

Rachel Rhodes, 30, said around 11:30 a.m. Thursday she heard knocking on the door to her home in Laporte County. Then someone began kicking her door several times, eventually breaking it open, the Northwest Indiana Times reports.

The pregnant woman then grabbed a kitchen knife and confronted the man, who she said was 25 to 35 years old, clean shaven, drove a dark green Cadillac.

The man quickly fled, and police reportedly believe the intruder was attempting to burglarize the home.

Rhodes told the NWITimes the act was an instinct and that she felt like a “mama bear protecting her cubs.”
