Police Warn of Violent Wrigleyville Robberies

Several suspects use force to rob victims after approaching them on the street, according to the Chicago Police

Police are warning of several recent violent robberies near Wrigley Field on the city's North Side.

Several suspects use force to rob victims after approaching them on the street, according to Chicago Police. In at least two of the robberies, the suspects engaged the victims in conversation first.

Chicago police have not revealed if they believe the robberies are being committed by the same group of criminals, but residents and businesses have been reminded to stay on alert. 

"It's scary," said Freddie Oboza, who works in the area. "I won't walk to [my] car alone."

There have been three violent muggings near Wrigley Field in the month of July. The most recent incident happened Friday in the 3200 block of North Halsted. The victim told police he was robbed by three to four people.

The news of another reported robbery hit home for Drew Hanson, who was held up while walking home from work one night.

"A guy came up from behind me and choked me," Hanson told NBC Chicago. "[I just said], 'Take what you want!' I thought he was going to kill me."

Chicago Police released the robberies occurred at the following times and places:

-about 12:30 a.m. on July 19 in the 3500 block of North Clark;

-about 1:15 a.m. on July 20 in the 3300 block of North Halsted;

-and about 5:30 a.m. on July 25 in the 3200 block of North Halsted.

The victims gave varying descriptions of the suspects.
