Police Warn of Strong-Arm Robberies on NW Side

Eight incidents reported since end of January

Chicago police issued a warning Wednesday about a recent series of strong-arm robberies on the city's Northwest Side.

Police reported eight attacks since Jan. 28 in the area bounded by Belmont to the south, Cornelia to the north, Marmora to the west and Lotus to the east. Most attacks occurred in the afternoon or evening.

In each attack, a man approached a woman on a sidewalk or in an alley and robbed her purse, money and cell phone. Police did not say if the offender used a weapon.

Police only had a vague description of the suspect.

They warned residents to report any suspicious activity and to pay special attention to people loitering in the area.
