Pregnant Woman Among 2 Killed in Shooting, Baby Delivered: Police

Police said the woman's baby was delivered, but the infant remained in critical condition as of Friday afternoon

A pregnant woman was among two people found fatally shot Friday morning on Chicago's Far South Side, but doctors were able to deliver her baby, police said.

Officers found the man and woman with gunshot wounds just after 7:30 a.m. in the 400 block of West 102nd Place in the city's Fernwood neighborhood, police said.

The man had suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman, who had three gunshot wounds to her chest, was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she was pronounced dead.

Police said the woman's baby was delivered, but the infant remained in critical condition as of Friday afternoon.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office had not confirmed the deaths Friday morning.

The shooting adds to the bloody milestone the city reached last week, recording more than 500 homicides for the year so far

Last weekend alone, three people were killed and at least 38 others were wounded in shootings across the area.
