Police: Soiled Diapers Being Dumped on Northwest Indiana Roadways

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s office said two northwest Indiana towns have a littering problem, and it’s much stinkier than just trash.

Officials said seven months ago deputies noticed an increasing amount of white plastic bags filled with soiled diapers being dumped along roads in Galena and Springfield.

The bags were described as typical grocery store-style bags and were found along a number of area roadways.

On Wednesday, inmates from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Jail started cleaning up trash left behind during the long winter. The crew picked up more than a truckload of garbage from the roadways.

"It's sad that in the short time [the crew has] been working, the truck is already full of extra-large bags holding all of this trash" said Sheriff John Boyd. "We have such a beautiful county and it's absolutely criminal that someone would continue to dump their trash along our roads.”

Police have asked anyone who may know the people contributing to the diaper “littering problem” or who witness trash being dumped to call the sheriff’s office.
