Police, SWAT Respond to Possible Barricade Situation After Fatal Englewood Shooting

Police and SWAT are on the scene of a possible barricade situation after two people were shot on Labor Day in the city's Englewood neighborhood.

The shooting happened around 9:30 a.m. in the 6800 block of South Emerald, police said. 

Officers responding to a report of two people shot found a 24-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head and a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the thigh and head.

The 24-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and the 26-year-old was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in stable condition.

Witnesses reported a suspected gunman fled into a nearby building. Police were on the scene searching for the suspect and were treating the situation as a potential barricade situation as of 11:30 a.m. 

It remained unclear if any suspects were in the building, however, authorities said.
