2 Arrested in Standoff on Northwest Side

Police say a suspect had barricaded himself inside of a home in the 6300 block of West Roscoe Street and was holding two people against their will

A man and woman were arrested Friday after a SWAT team responded to a standoff on Chicago’s Northwest Side, police said.

Deputy Chief of Detectives Dean Andrews said police responded around 9:30 a.m. to a call reporting a suspicious person inside a home in the 6300 block of West Roscoe Street in the Portage Park neighborhood.

Upon arrival officers found a man and a woman inside the home, and after trying to gain entry, the officers were confronted by the man with a crossbow, Andrews said.

After calling for assistance, a SWAT team arrived just after 1 p.m.

Andrews said after about two hours of lengthy conversations with the woman inside, she came out of the home on her own and told officers the man inside was in possible need of medical attention.

Just before 4 p.m. the SWAT team entered the home and were able to find the man and bring him out safely, Andrews said.

Both suspects were taken into custody. No injuries have been reported.

As of 4:30 p.m. officers were still on the scene investigating the incident.
