Man Stole Gym Members' Keys, Broke Into Cars: Police

Similar incidents reported at other gyms

The gym bunnies at a St. Charles fitness center weren't just losing pounds; they were losing valuables as well.

Daniel Kellogg, 35, is accused of taking car keys from a front desk "key basket" at XSport Fitness Health Club and using them to burglarize the vehicles parked nearby, reports the Daily Herald.

Kellogg broke into five cars at XSport between March 31 and April 2, said police, and similar break-ins were reported at XSport locations in South Barrington and Naperville.

Among the stolen items, Kellogg allegedly took credit cards and charged between $1600 and $2100 to his own business, according to the Kane County Chronicle.

It seems he was doing his best to pump up the economy.

Police searched Kellogg's West Chicago home after being notified of the credit card charges and reviewing the gym's surveillance video.

At Kellogg's residence, officials found a credit card reader, credit card receipts, and a police badge stolen from a South Barrington police officer, reports the Daily Herald.

Kellogg was arrested Wednesday and charged with five counts of burglary from a motor vehicle.
