A 26-year-old man was shot dead on the South Side Sunday night and police said they were questioning two suspects after they were arrested following a car chase on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

The man was gunned down about 5:10 p.m. near 51st Street and Indiana Avenue in the Washington Park neighborhood, said police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien, citing preliminary information.

Police officers were able to arrive at the scene of the shooting just in time to see two suspects take off in a car, police said, adding that it was unclear if police officers witnessed the shooting or were nearby when shots were fired.

The officers followed the car onto the Dan Ryan, where the car crashed, police said.

It was not immediately clear what happened next, but officers were able to arrest the duo near 43rd Street and Indiana Avenue, police said, citing early reports.

No charges had been filed Sunday night.
