Police: Man Dies After Falling Out of Golf Cart in McHenry County

Alcohol is suspected as a factor in the incident

A man died early Sunday after he fell from the back of a golf cart on a McHenry County road, police said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s office responded to the incident a few minutes after midnight, and found that a man had fallen out of the back of a golf cart being driven south on Johnson Road, just north of Route 173, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Stephen Canfield, 20, of Harvard, was taken to Centegra Woodstock Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said.

The McHenry County Coroner’s office could not immediately be reached to confirm the death.

The 21-year-old driver and two other passengers, 20 and 21, were not injured, the sheriff’s office said.

Alcohol is suspected as a factor in the incident. The sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and the coroner’s office are investigating.
