Chicago Police are investigating the shooting death of a teenage boy in Humboldt Park.

A gunman shot a 13-year-old boy in the head in the 3400 block of West Beach Avenue in the West Side neighborhood before 2:30pm Tuesday. Authorities found his body on a second-floor porch, said Chicago Police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.

Detectives initially began a death investigation but reclassified it to a homicide probe, ,the Chicago Tribune reports.

Emergency crews transported the teen to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, said Richard Rosado, Fire Department spokesman.

Another fire department official confirmed the teen, whose head injury came from a large-caliber gun, died after he arrived.
