A Chicago man has been charged with the armed robbery of a west suburban store on Saturday, a crime that occurred while he left three young children alone in an apartment, police said.
Antwann L. Hunt, 27, was charged with armed robbery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and resisting a police officer causing injury, according to a statement from Batavia police.
He was also charged with causing a child to be endangered because he left three children—ages 6, 4 and 1—alone in an apartment while he robbed the store, police said.
About 2:15 p.m. Saturday, police responded to an armed robbery at the Batavia Pantry at 929 E. Wilson St., police said.
Officers spotted Hunt running east in the 1000 block of East Wilson Street and chased him. After a “short scuffle,” police arrested Hunt and found a knife and cash on him, police said.
A police officer who was hurt during the chase was taken to a hospital, but has since been released, police said.
The store’s clerk, 36, also suffered minor injuries to his hand and head, and was treated on the scene, police said.
Hunt, of the 1300 block of South Spaulding in Chicago, was ordered held on a $300,000 bond Monday.
