Officials on Tuesday revealed plans for a major renovation at Woodfield Mall this year.
The nearly $14 million project, dubbed a “style evolution,” looks to give the mall modern updates and improve traffic flow for retailers and customers, according to the developer Audrey Thompson, regional vice president at Simon Malls.
“It was important for us to maintain Woodfield’s unique environment,” Thompson said.
The renovation plans include replacing much of the mall’s brick features, particularly those in Center Court, adding an elevator and replacing two existing elevators, adding two escalators, and revamping the seating areas throughout the mall.
“It will be a complete update of the center,” Thompson said. “It will improve the visibility for our tenants. It will also greatly enhance the traffic and flow for our customers and visitors.”
Thompson also noted that the renovation will include new signage for shoppers, flooring replacements and other “aesthetically pleasing finishes.”
The changes are expected to be made this year, but the mall plans to remained open during construction, said General Manager David Gott.

The mall currently features nearly 300 stores and restaurants, according to its website.
The mall’s last renovation was reportedly 20 years ago, when 50 stores were added, including a three-story Nordstrom.
Last month, officials announced plans to add a Pac-Man inspired restaurant.
“Woodfield mall is the hub of our downtown,” said Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson. “We are viewed as a downtown of the northwest suburbs.”
