New Phone Scammers Claim to be Illinois State Police

Officials are warning of a phone scam where the caller claims to be associated with the Illinois State Police.

In the calls, an individual will say they are with the ISP or “Illinois Police” before asking for a donation, according to the Quad City Times. In some calls an individual claimed to advise recipients of a supposed warrant out for their arrest before asking for money to be sent.

The call is usually from a 618 area code but scammers can easily change the phone numbers, officials said.

Illinois residents should know the Illinois State Police will never call to solicit money for any reason, according to release.

Anyone who receives a similar call are asked to report it to the Office of the Illinois Attorney General at (800) 243-0618.
