Chicago police shot and killed a man Monday night in the Homan Square neighborhood on the city's West Side.
Around 7:40 p.m., officers were on patrol in the 3400 block of West Grenshaw when they attempted to stop a car matching the description of one sought in connection with an earlier shooting, according to Chief of Detectives Eugene Roy said.
The offender then jumped out and tried to flee the scene on foot and an officer followed.
At some point, Roy said, the officer and the man got into an "armed confrontation" and the officer fired shots.
The man, whose age and gender weren't immediately known, was taken to an area hospital and was pronounced dead.
No officers were injured and a weapon was recovered at the scene, officials said.
The shooting is under investigation by the Independent Police Review Authority.

The officer involved is being placed on administrative duties for at least 30 days while the shooting is investigated, police said.
