A person was shot by a Chicago police officer on the city's South Side, authorities said Sunday morning.
Around 9:58 a.m., officers were conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle with stolen license plates in the 300 block of West 59th Place in the city's Englewood neighborhood, Chicago police said in a release.
As the officers approached the car, three people exited the vehicle and fled on foot, police said. While officers pursued the offenders, one man confronted an officer with a weapon, prompting the officer to open fire, striking the offender multiple times.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital, according to police, who did not provide further details on his condition or injuries.
Three people were taken into custody, officials said, and two weapons were recovered from the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.
The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days as the Independent Police Review Authority continues to investigate.
