Person Fatally Struck by Blue Line Train

The incident occurred near the Kedzie station in the West Side East Garfield Park neighborhood

Blue Line trains were halted Sunday Evening after a person was fatally struck by a train near the Kedzie station in the West Side East Garfield Park neighborhood.

The person, whose age and gender were not immediately known, was struck by an inbound train at Harrison Street and Homan Avenue about 6:30 p.m., according to CTA spokeswoman Tammy Chase and Chicago Fire Media Affairs.

Fire officials said the person was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

As of 7:20 p.m., Blue Line service was suspended between Racine and Cicero, Chase said. Shuttles were available to connect passengers between the affected stops.

The transit agency also recommended the No. 9, 12, 20, 49, 50, 52, 53 South and 126 bus routes as alternatives.
